Sydney

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Joan Beverly Kendrick, announce the passing of our mother, sister, and aunt on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.

Born on September 2, 1950, in Sydney, Beverly was the daughter of the late John Malcolm Wilson and Rita Eileen (Hudson) Kendrick.

Beverly is survived by her son Malcolm Kendrick; sisters, Patricia Kendrick (Wes Murphy), Eunice Anthony, and Andrea (Jeff Dalziel); brother, Clifford Kendrick (Shannon Burke); brother-in-law, Paul MacDonald; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides her parents, Beverly was predeceased by sisters, Eleanor MacDonald, Sharon White, and Valerie Kendrick in infancy, and brothers-in-law, Douglas White, Pierce McNeil, Vincent Anthony, and Don Moore.

Beverly had a strong love for animals, especially cats and birds. When I was growing up there were always cats in the house and either a canary or budgie. You would always hear the sound of birds chirping in the house. She fed the wild birds too.

When Beverly had good health, she looked forward to going to rock the dock every year in August with her son. It was a 3-night music festival on the Sydney waterfront. There would be different bands playing each night. We always got the weekend pass. Even if it was raining, we would still go. There were usually local bands from the island there. And a headliner each night. Like April Wine, Trooper, Dr Hook, the Stampeders, and Blue Roadeo. We would go every year from the time I was in junior high at Malcolm, until she had her stroke. We went to a couple concerts at the HAT too. We also saw Tommy Cash in concert. My mom was also a Swiftie. We went to a video concert of the eras tour. My mom was a little disappointed it wasn’t Taylor in person. But she still really enjoyed it.

Beverly enjoyed going out for dinner with her son. One of her favorite restaurants was Kay’s Cozy Corner. She like pizza from Napoli too. Her favorite being deluxe. She liked going for Chinese food at the New Moon. She liked the chicken Parm, and beer battered fish and chips I used to make. Her favorite donut was strawberry vanilla from Tim’s. It’s not easy to get as not every location has it. Before she got sick, I used to take her to Tim’s quite often. We would get coffee and she would get her strawberry vanilla donut. If we went to a location that didn’t have strawberry vanilla. She would get Boston cream. Her coffee was a double double, same as mine. She also liked to drink tea. One of her favorite desserts was deep fried ice cream. The first time I made it she thought I lost my mind putting ice cream in a deep fryer. It’s actually a Mexican dessert.

Beverly liked being outdoors in the summer. She enjoyed nature. She loved to smell of food cooking on a barbecue. When I cooked on a barbecue it was fancier than just burgers and hot dogs. She enjoyed the meals I made. She thought the fall was a beautiful time of year with all the different colored leaves.

Beverly used to like to watch horror movies at night with her son. But after her stroke they terrified her. She was kind of an overprotective parent when I was a kid. But I know she loved me; and always tried to do her best. My mom was a kind and caring person. If you were having a bad day, she always knew how to cheer you up. She would always help others anyway she could.

Visitation and funeral service to celebrate the life of Beverly Kendrick will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Thursday, April 2, 2026. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney at a later date.

Donations in memory of Beverly may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Online Condolences

My sincere condolences to your family on the loss of Beverly. We were students at the Churchill School for many years back in the 60’s. She was always happy and lived life to the fullest.
