Sydney
With heavy hearts, we the family, announce the passing of Jean Matilda (Lahanky) Madore on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney River.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, Jean was born in Whitney Pier on January 15,1935, the daughter of the late Mary (Baryluk) and Paul Lahanky.
Jean attended Holy Angels High School and began her working life at the former Naval Base in Coxheath, thereafter, spending 25 plus years of a career employed with Employment Insurance. In September 1956, Jean married Donald ‘Donnie’ Madore. Together they made their home on East Street in Whitney Pier, and later Ferndell Crescent, where they raised their family and built a life rooted in love and community.
Along with her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, Donald Madore; sister, Anne (Fred Mills); brother, Walter Lahanky; sisters-in-law, Gloria (Davis), Josephine (Cole), and Theresa (Dolly) (MacKinnon), and brothers-in-law, Fred Madore, Dr. Mike Madore, Dr. Pat Madore, and Eddie Madore.
Left to mourn Jean’s passing are her son, Paul (Yvonne) Madore, Middle Sackville, with grandchildren, Nicholas, Chris (Amanda), Alberta, and great-granddaughter, Addy; son, Dean (Debbie) Madore, with granddaughter, Sarah; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jean lived a full and meaningful life, devoting many years to volunteer work at the Ukrainian Church and Hall. Alongside fellow church members, she worked tirelessly catering events, making perogies, and running bingo in support of the Ukrainian Church and community. Jean was gifted in knitting, sewing, and cooking, lovingly keeping both Italian and Ukrainian culinary traditions alive for her family. She enjoyed travel to see family and friends.
Jean appreciated the care and love from the staff at Soldier’s Cove, Kimberly Hall, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care where she resided for close to four years. A special thank you to the staff for their exceptional care and kindness.
Memorial service to celebrate the life of Jean Madore will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Reception will follow at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, with Fr. Volodymyr Perun officiating.
