Sydney
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Martha Cecilia Constantine, age 95, on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on October 7, 1930, in Colliers, NL, Martha was the daughter of the late Michael Costigan and Bride (Keating) Costigan, and stepdaughter of the late Agnes (Whalen) Costigan.
Martha was a woman of deep faith whose devotion to God was a guiding force throughout her life. She found comfort and joy in attending church and living her faith each day. Martha cherished time spent with her sisters and friends, especially enjoying their shared laughter during bingo outings. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor, her ability to be the life of the party, and the many meaningful connections she held close to her heart.
Martha is survived by her devoted sister, Peggy, whose love, care, and unwavering support meant so much to Martha and brought great comfort in her later years, as well as her sisters, Nancy (Wayne), Mary, Marie, Helen (George), and Lorraine; brothers, John (Meredith), Michael (Pat), and Joe (Cookie); sisters-in-law, Lorraine and Debbie; brothers-in-law, Gary and Murdock; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Martha was predeceased by the love of her life, Phillip Constantine; siblings, Sam, Mary, Beatrice, Brenda, Linda, Tom, and Brian; in-laws, Jimmy, Chalmers, and Arno. She is reunited with them in eternal rest.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Northside Community Guest Home, where Martha lived for the past five years. A special thank you to Diane Boyle, RN, and Linda McKeigan, RN, for their care and support, as well as to the home care staff and CCAs who provided exceptional care to Martha. The family would also like to express sincere thanks to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the kindness, compassion, and dignity shown to Martha in her final days.
Visitation and funeral service to celebrate the life of Martha Constantine will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Friday, January 30, 2026. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11 a.m. to noon with the funeral service to follow at noon in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. A private family interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, at a later date.
