Sydney
With broken hearts, we, the family, announce the passing of Michael George Latorre on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the age of 79, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Michael was born on April 24, 1946, in Sudbury, ON. He lived in Mississauga for most of his life, but retired in 2017, making beautiful Cape Breton his home. Michael was the cherished son of the late Frank and Nancy Latorre and the devoted husband of Delores Lirette.
Michael was a loving father to Barbra (Noel) Lasby, Chris Latorre, and a proud stepfather to Trena (Rex) Nippard and Lillyann (Joey) Desmond. He was a deeply proud grandfather to Madison and Matthew Lasby,
Chantelle and Cole Nippard, and Tegan and Joshua Desmond, who brought him immense joy. Michael was comforted knowing that someday he would be reunited with his beloved German Shepherds, Chelsea and Ruby.
Michael will be forever remembered by his siblings, Cora Gmyrek (Michael, predeceased), Stella Maffei, Angela Waugh (Garry, predeceased), Joseph (Janice) Latorre, and Richard Latorre. He was a loving uncle to many cherished nieces, nephews and a lifelong friend to Paul Natale.
Michael had a deep love for music, especially singing and playing the guitar, which brought happiness to those around him. Known for his kindness, generosity, and wonderful sense of humour, he made everyone feel welcome and valued. A man of deep faith, Michael found strength and peace in his relationship with God, which guided him throughout his life.
Michael owned and operated a successful business, Cawthra Road Locksmith. He was also a proud black belt in Taekwondo, reflecting his discipline and dedication.
Michael’s warmth, laughter, and loving spirit will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Michael Latorre will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd.
