Sydney
We, the family of William ‘Buddy’ Norman regret to announce his passing on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on April 4, 1938, in Sydney, Buddy was the son of the late William ‘Billy’ and Madeline (Gushue) Norman.
Buddy worked at the Sydney Steel Plant, clothing and building materials industries for many years and finally with the City of Sydney. His most beloved title was ‘Dad’ to his three wonderful boys and the best ‘Poppa’ to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Buddy is survived by his children, Todd, (Brenda), Lorne (Catherine) and Lee (Doreen); grandchildren, Samantha, Miranda, Daniel, Andrew and Katelyn; great-grandchildren, Carlyn, Nolan, Archer and sibling, Madeline (Fred) Tomie.
Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by his wife, Rose; grandson, Greg; granddaughter, Kathleen and siblings, Louise (Ralph) MacDonald and David (Irene) Norman.
A special thank you to Dr. F. Buhariwalla and medical staff for all the years of wonderful care given to Buddy in his time of need.
When you entered the house, a hot cup of tea and a quick pan of tasty biscuits would be ready in a jiffy along with a story or two. Buddy was an avid sports fan, a skillful tarabish player and a great keeper of funny sayings and riddles.
There will be no visitation for the late Buddy Norman, and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Buddy may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
