Sydney

We, the family of Joseph Theadore Proctor, regret to announce his passing, surrounded by his loving family, on October 6, 2025, at 84 years of age, in Sydney.

Joe was the adopted son of the late James and Margaret MacDonnell, New Glasgow.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Agnes Proctor; daughters, Margie (Todd) Ferguson, Middle Sackville, and Cathy (Peter) Proctor, Sydney; son, Terry (Tracy) Proctor, Sydney. He is also survived by his sister, Jeannie MacGillivary, BC; brothers-in-law, George (Arlene), and Tom (Janet) Hines, and sister-in-law, Linda (Joe) Hines.

Joe will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Cassidy, Mitchell, Tyler, Jenna, and Caellum, and by his great-granddaughter, Sophie.

Joe was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Jimmy MacDonnell, Francis MacDonnell, Father Duncan MacDonnell, Sister Catherine MacDonnell, Theresa MacDonnell, the Honourable Hugh MacDonnell, Bill Potter, Dan Burns, and Kaye Gottschall. He was also predeceased by brothers-in-law, Joe and John Charles Hines.

Joe will be remembered as a man who was always willing to lend a helping hand and who always had a story to tell. His bright smile and twinkling blue eyes will never be forgotten. In Grampy’s eyes, “if you’re not early, you’re late”, and you could always count on him to be waiting in the driveway long before it was time to leave.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at MacGillivary Guest Home, who treated our “Grampy” and “Papa Joe” like family. Special thanks to Madison and Vicky for your love, kindness, and devotion to our Dad.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation for the late Joe Proctor. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.

Donations in Joe’s memory may be made to the SPCA, Cape Breton Chapter.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
