Sydney
On Sunday, August 24, 2025, our mom, Sybil Elaine Coward went to be with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ at the age of 99. Daughter of the late Dudley and Louise Frances, Sybil was born on April 25, 1926, in Sydney.
In her earlier years’ mom worked at the City of Sydney Hospital. After marrying the late Arthur Coward, mom settled into homelife, raising a family of six in Whitney Pier. Mom was a no non-sense individual, yet kind and caring. Mom was an avid reader with her favorite book being the bible. In her pastime she enjoyed her grandkids and her great-grandkids, going for drives and travelling to Halifax to visit family.
Our family extends a sincere thank you to mom’s devoted care giver, Amy Barter, for her unwavering kindness, boundless love and exceptional care.
Mom is survived by her children, Reginal (Judy), Reuban (Debbie), Cecilia, Ethel (Rex), Dina (Everett), and Cephas (Jennifer); grandkids, Sonya (Robbie), Reuban, Matthew (Christina), Tamiesha (John), Brandon, Simone, Dominyc, DeVonne, DeVereaux, Michaela, Sharon, Valerie, Carl, Leslie, Kendrick, Allister, Kevin, Leanne, Curtis, Shane, Joyce, Tony, Michelle, and great-grandkids, Amelia, Savannah, Faryn, Dante, Xavier, Chase, Samiah, Nevaeh, Luca, Keon, Isiah, and Mya.
Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Reginald Coward; siblings, Isalene, Charles, Olive, Archibald, and stepchildren, Alf, Clautilda, Donovan, and Thelma.
Visitation and funeral service to celebrate the life of Sybil Coward will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Friday, August 29, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12 noon in the All Faith Chapel with Pastor Dr. Harlyn Purdy officiating. Interment will take place in Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney, after a reception at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sybil may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
