Sydney

July 24, 1943 – September 27,2024

With deep sadness, we, the family, announce Sheila’s passing (beloved wife, dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sibling, aunt and good friend) on Friday, September 27, 2024, at MacGillivray Guest Home, Sydney.

Born in Sydney, Sheila was the youngest daughter of the late Allan and Catherine MacNeil.

Sheila is survived by her husband, Clarence, of 62 years; her sons, Bill (Darlene) and Charley; grandchildren, Samantha (Ryan), Zachary (Jenna), and Erin; great-granddaughter, Luci; special nieces, Joanne and Marlene; as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends, all of whom she was close to over the years (you know who you are).

Besides her parents, Sheila was predeceased by her son, Michael and siblings, Mabel (Sol) Fewer, Marie Ann ‘Nan’ (Joe) Kacevychuis, Michael, Irene (Freddie) MacLennan, Joseph, Louise (Ed) Dwyer, and Margaret Ann.

Sheila was a very gentle, kind person, and everyone loved her. You could always get a good cup of tea and sandwich when you dropped in. In the early years, Sheila worked in retail ‘downtown,’ where she enjoyed fashion, meeting people and having a few laughs. She loved listening to music (Elvis Presley was a favourite), dancing, camping, and shopping. She attended her weekly TOPS meetings and get-togethers afterwards, where she made some good friends. Sheila also had a great love of animals; her favourites were Boo and Bear.

In her later years, Sheila’s health declined due to Alzheimer’s Disease. There were many challenges, however even in those moments Sheila was still the loving person we knew.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ferguson and Dr. Archbald for their care and support and all the home care workers which allowed her to stay at home longer with her husband, Clarence. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at MacGillivray Guest Home. There are so many kind and caring people working there. Thank you for all you did for Sheila every single day.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Sheila Chiasson will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Wednesday October 2, 2024. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12 noon to 1 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Internment will take place in St. Theresa’s Cemetery, Sydney.

Donations in memory of Sheila can be sent to Cape Breton SPCA or a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Sheila was dearly loved and will be forever missed. Rest now, Mom.
