Sydney

We, the family of Valerie Levesque, sadly announce her passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family on the morning of Wednesday, July 7, 2021, after a long but courageous battle with cancer.

Born on April 20, 1947, in Whitney Pier, Valerie was the daughter of the late Roy and Rose (Grant) Young.

Valerie dedicated her life to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her family and friends were everything to her and she never forgot a birthday! She was so proud to say she was a “Whitney Pier Girl”. Valerie was a “people person” and she welcomed many into her home. One of her keen interests was her family tree and that led her on a journey to seek out her ancestry. This accumulated literally volumes of information over the years. Valerie’s other keen interest was all the holidays as she loved to do up her home and no one does Christmas decorations like Valerie!

Over the years Valerie volunteered and participated in many organizations. She was a member of the Red Cross Corps, the Ladies Auxiliary, Whitney Pier Branch 128 of the Royal Canadian Legion and an avid dart player and a good one at that.

Valerie is survived by her husband and soul mate of 54 years, Jean Charles; children, Christine Levesque-Brown (Adam) and Jake (Kathleen Troke); her adoring grandchildren, Mitch, Caitlyn and Amanda Brown and Jaden Levesque; sister Marva (Red); brothers, Grant and Bruce Young; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, near and far.

Besides her parents, Valerie was predeceased by her sisters-in-law, Nancy Young and Susan Young.

Although we know it is never easy to say good-bye, Valerie is at peace now and her memory will be forever in our hearts and those whose lives she touched.

Memorial service to celebrate the life of Valerie Levesque will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Covid protocols will be practiced at the service.

Donations in memory of Valerie may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
