Louisbourg

It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and best friend, Joanne Frances Evans, who passed away on July 28, 2021 at the age of 65 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Louisbourg on July 29, 1955, Joanne was the daughter of the late George and Joan (Ferguson) MacMullin.

Mom worked mainly in the Restaurant business. She cooked in her younger years for the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Park for 13 years. Mom also worked for the Gubstake and the Lobster Kettle. When she wasn’t cooking, she was managing restaurants. She managed The Subs Plus in Sydney and in North Sydney. Mom also worked for National Sea Products for a short time, then at Louisbourg Sea Foods. She was always keeping busy, working seasonal for 15 years until she raised her three daughters, whom she loved so dearly. Mom moved to Sydney after Dad passed away and began working for Citizenship.

Mom was one of a kind. If she had something to say, she just said it. She always had a story to tell, or memories to share, and could always make someone laugh. She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her precious grandchildren, Joseph, Arahlyn, Shaeleigh, and Siobhan, whom she loved so very much. Mom enjoyed travelling with her daughter, Donna Marie, son-in-law, Jay and the children as they went all over the USA checking off her bucket list. Mom also adored going to Boston for six weeks at Christmas time. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Joanne is survived by her three daughters, Donna Marie (Jay Ball), Deborah Lynn (J West), and Dianna (Hayes); special son, Mark Wood; brothers, Pat and Michael; nieces, Gracie and Patricia MacMullin; nephew, PJ and many cousins.

Besides her parents, Joanne was predeceased by her loving husband, Ward Evans, who she can now be reunited with.

There will be no visitation for the late Joanne Evans. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Stella Maris Parish, Louisbourg, at a later date, concelebrate with Fr. Evo DiPierro and Rev. Sheldon Chant. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery

Covid protocols will be practiced at the Mass.

Donations in memory of Joanne may be made to Stella Maris Building Fund, The SPCA or a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
