Louisbourg
Walter Bryden MacDonald, age 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Walter was predeceased by his parents, Sadie and Daniel MacDonald; brother, Clifford MacDonald, and grandson, Braeden Maxharraj.
Walter leaves behind his loving wife, Mary; son, Walter (Sheri); daughter, Trina (Darrell); his much-loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita, (Fabian) Burke, Mary (Denise) Burke, Margie (Danny) MacMillan and Debbie (Lawrence) Kennedy; brothers, Jackie (Patsy) MacDonald, Lauchie (Irene) MacDonald, Burt (Clarise) MacDonald, Kenny (Laurie) MacDonald, and sister-in-law, Helle MacDonald.
Walter was a carpenter by trade and worked for 40 plus years and there are many heirloom pieces of furniture to show for it. Walter had a fondness for the water and built himself a couple of boats to spend time on it. When he was no longer on the water, he spent many hours filming it. Walter was a man of few words, but with a sense of humor that he showed through all his dad jokes. He will be missed by all that had the pleasure of meeting him.
Memorial service to celebrate the life of Walter Bryden MacDonald will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will take place in Stella Maris Cemetery, Louisbourg at a later date.
Covid protocols will be practiced at the service.
Donations in memory of Walter may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

To the family and extended family of Walter MacDonald I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences. Walter was a good neighbour of ours when we lived on Havenside and was kind enough to take on a couple of carpentry needs we had during the many years we lived there. Hard work interlaced with very amusing jokes here and there seemed to make up a typical work day for him. He was a pleasure to be around and I feel blessed to have known him and many of his family. His friendly wave whenever we passed each other in our vehicles will be missed. God’s peace be with you Walter.
