It is with great sadness that we, the family of Edward Burton, announce his passing on Monday, April 5, 2021 with his family by his side, after a long battle with cancer.
Born on June 27, 1959 in Sydney, Edward was the son of the late Edward and Patsy (Sampson) Burton.
Edward is survived by his wife of 39 years, Eleanor (Mader) Burton; sons, Daniel (Jaymee) and David (Carly); three precious grandchildren, Landyn, Daniel and Benjamin; brother, Andrew (Janice); in-laws, Weldie (Sharon), Bev (Pat), Doug (Helen), Paula (Gerry), Patsy and Robert (Judy); as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and long-time friends.
Besides his parents, Edward was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Everett.
Edward worked in construction for 30 years with Peter’s Construction, The Graham Group in Alberta and the last three years as a training instructor with METI in Sydney. Edward loved his Toronto Maple Leafs, camping, Nascar and especially his ‘73’ Duster. You could find him at all the car shows.
Many thanks to Dr. Carol Critchley for all the great care over the years, as well as the doctors and nurses in the cancer unit, palliative care and the VON who were there for Edward in his time of need.
As per Edward’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation for the late Edward Burton will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. ‘Covid Protocols’ will be practiced at the visitation.
Donations in memory of Edward may be made to The Cape Breton Cancer Care Centre or Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
