Sydney

It is with great sadness that the family of Marion MacDonald, announce her passing on Monday, November 23, 2020. Marion passed peacefully in the arms of her husband and children at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on July 3, 1955 in Moncton, NB, Marion was the daughter of the late Earl and Rosemary (Goldie) Mitton.

After completing her university studies, Marion moved to Sydney. She was employed by the CBVRCE as a teacher for much of her professional career. Marion enjoyed crafting, cooking, baking, crossword puzzles, and time spent with family. She especially enjoyed March Break vacations in Punta Cana, time spent on the Mira River, and summer drives in her red convertible beetle.

Marion will be greatly missed by her husband, Brian MacDonald; daughter, Kelly MacDonald (Joe Marsh); son, Kevin MacDonald (Suzanne DiFlavio); her cherished granddaughters, Allison, Alexis, Abagail, Angelica, and nanny’s boy, Silas; sister, Dorothy Kelly (Robert); as well as many other friends and family.

Visitation for the late Marion MacDonald will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Friday, November 27, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A celebration of Marion’s life will be held at the funeral home in the All Faiths Chapel on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Dennis Lamey officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

We would like to thank all those who provided care to Marion during this time, especially nurse Esther of 3A, the palliative care team and Dr. Burns.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Those we love don’t go away
They walk beside us every day
Unseen, unheard, but always near
Still loved, still missed and very dear.

For death leaves a heartache
No one can heal
And love leaves a memory
No one can steal.
