Marion Bridge

From the minute we were born to the moment we take our last breath, there is that little time in between that we call life. Though change is the only thing constant in this world, the concept of losing someone forever is something that’s difficult to grasp. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful, precious mother, aunt, sister and grandmother, Mary Catherine MacArthur, age 76, on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Glace Bay Hospital, Glace
Bay.

Mary was the daughter of the late Lester and Alena Margaret (MacKinnon) MacArthur, formerly of Sydney Forks.

Mary’s role as a mother and grandmother always brought her many joys. A devoted mother to son Philip (Lisa Binns) Felch; daughters, Natasha Felch and Lisa (Maury) McCrillis; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; eight sisters and two brothers, Gertie (Arnold) Hall, Blanche (late Brennan) Benoit , Anna (late Gerald) Mullins, Muriel (late Robert) Burns, Dale (Cornelius) Hall, Joyce (Joe Collins) Felix, Cynthia (Wendell) MacDougall, Cecil (Sheila) MacArthur and Douglas (Sheila) MacArthur; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her sister, Janet (late Jackie) MacDonald; grandsons, Austin Philip Felch and Maury Packard McCrillis IV.

Gardening was Mary’s long-time passion along with tinkering with house projects. She loved when family and friends would stop in to visit. She was such a beautiful woman and had a heart of gold. Anyone who knew her had only good things to say about her. Known for her kind heart, making tea biscuits and apple pie for neighbors, she was also known for her generosity.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary MacArthur will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.) Whitney Pier on Tuesday, October 27, 2020. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12 noon to 1 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Kevin Head officiating.

Donations in memory of Mary may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Sorry for your loss, your mom was a wonderful person and she will always hold a special place in my heart. I will miss her laughs and her pleasant voice but most of all I will miss her thoughtfulness, she always knew how to make me smile.
