It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Theodore Duncan Mills, age 81, on Thursday, July 9, 2020.
Born on October 16,1938 in Sydney, Ted was the son of the late Fred and Jessie (MacIntyre) Mills.
Ted lived in Boston for over ten years before returning to Cape Breton. He worked at the Sydney Steel Plant and was a former bartender at the Ashby Legion. He enjoyed harness racing, tarbish, his daily walk and a cheap cigar. He loved to talk to his many nieces and nephews and was very proud of all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren and spent lots of time with them.
Ted is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane (MacNeil) Mills; children, Janet (Wayne) Madinsky and Craig (Colleen) Mills; grandchildren, Christopher, Danielle (Dave) Lewis, Chelsea, Shayne, Aidan and Rory; great-grandchildren, Wesley and Reese; sister, Mary (Queenie) MacLean; brother, Stan (Rhoda) Mills, sisters-in-law, Ann and Wendy; brothers-in-law, Allan (Sadie), Joe, Mike (Lorna), Bernie (Aileen), Reggie (Theresa), Leonard (Louise) and Gordie (Michelle); sister-in-law, Marlene and special nephew, Jesse.
Besides his parents, Ted was predeceased by his son, Gary; brothers, Freddy, Malcolm and Burt; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Brenda; brothers-in-law, Ralph, Gerard and Shelly; In-Laws, Mike and Sadie MacNeil.
As per Ted’s request, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A private family memorial service will be held with Fr. Dennis Lamey officiating.
Donations in memory of Ted may be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation and The Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

It is with a sad heart that we have heard of the passing of Ted. It is a difficult time and we understand your sadness completely. It has been over 20 years since Dad passed away, but it still feels like yesterday. Dad, Freddie and Bert will definitely welcome him with open arms.
