It is with great sadness, we the family, announce the passing of George Lanaras, on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Long Term Care Taigh Solas, North Sydney.

Born on March 5, 1936 in Greece, George was the son of the late Stavros and Sofia Lanaras.

George is survived by his son, Stavros; brother, Gianis; sister, Maria Kalaboki; sister-in-law, Koula (Nick) Kalavrouziotis-Vihos; nieces, Lula, Tina and Tasia and nephews, Dimitri, George, and John.

Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his wife, Anastasia (Kalavrouziotis) Lanaras in 2012.

George and his family moved from Greece in 1975, migrated and lived in Sydney ever since. He became a pizza shop owner when he bought Franks Pizzeria on Townsend Street. He loved watching hockey, fishing and “parea” company. He was religious and quite an easy-going family man. George made great open-face pizza burgers and like the saying “My Buddy”.

Funeral Service to celebrate the life of George Lanaras will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.) Whitney Pier on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 10 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Panagiotis (Peter) Maropoulos officiating. Following the service interment will take place at Forrest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George can be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
