It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Alice Marie Buchanan on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on September 8, 1934 in Sydney, Alice was the daughter of the late William and Emily (Rose) Penny.
Alice had a love for life. Loved to fish. Loved her Bingo, Loved the casino. Loved her Toronto Blue Jays. Loved her Highlander Basketball games. Loved to Bowl. Loved to travel. Loved her beer. Loved to crochet, as there are over 100 blankets that she made for her friends spread all over the world.
Alice will be missed beyond measure by her daughter, Marie (Dave MacNeil) Fudge, Sydney; sons, Andrew (Cathy) Buchanan, Dartmouth, Arne (Keera) Buchanan, Qatar; grandchildren, Rita Fudge and Jonathan (Stacey McLaughlin) Fudge; sisters, Joan Lush, Sydney and Margie Dunlavey, Sydney; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Alice is predeceased by her husband, Duncan John Buchanan and brothers, Michael, Charlie, Steven and James.
Memorial service to celebrate the life of Alice Buchanan will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home when circumstances permit. Interment will take place at Forrest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alice can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
