Whitney Pier

It is with great sorrow and heartbreak that we, the family of Tracy, announce her passing on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on July 3, 1959 in Sydney, Tracy was the daughter of the late Mary and Michael Whelan.

Tracy is survived by her loving husband, Barry; son, Barry Jr; daughter, Jennifer; three precious grandsons, Hunter, Hennessey and Harrison; sister, Michelle; brothers, Kevin, Michael, Jimmy and Kelly; in-laws, Lucina (Blair), Jacqueline (Glenn) and Valda (Tommy); her sista by choice, Linda (Ray); family friend, Lana; as well as many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.

Besides her parents, Tracy is predeceased by her in-laws, John and Avril Walsh; brother-in-law, John and her niece by choice, Liann.

Tracy was an avid Bingo player who enjoyed nothing more than Bingo at Membertou with her good friends, Sally, Diane and Gail. Tracy worked for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Holy Angels Convent and enjoyed both jobs. Tracy was always there for family and friends in a time of need and was always up for a chat and a cup of tea……many cups. All who knew and loved Tracy will continue to hold dear memories of her kindness in their hearts. She faced her health challenges over the past year with grace, resilience and courage that she showed throughout her life.

We would like to thank Dr. Carol Critchley, Dr. Ron MacCormack, the VON nurses and Palliative care doctors and nurses who cared for Tracy throughout her illness.

Visitation for the late Tracy Walsh will be held on Monday, January 27, 2020 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Road (entrance on Church Street), Whitney Pier. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral home. Internment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Donations in memory of Tracy may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
