We, the family of Dennis Joseph Hartigan sadly announce his passing on Monday, November 4, 2019 at the Waterford Heights Long Term Care Facility, New Waterford.

Born on June 15, 1955 in Sydney, Dennis was the son of the late Lawrence ‘Lar’ and Margaret ‘Peg’ Hartigan.

Dennis is survived by his sons, Dennis (Diane) and Darryl (Krystina); grandchildren, Destiny, Lawrence, Kelly and Ricky; great-granddaughter, Lilah; step-brother, Martin ‘Boots’ Osborne, big brother, Carl and his son, Jonathan; sisters, Linda, Colleen and Sally; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Dennis was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony, John C. (Judy), Allan F. (Helen), Lawrence (Karen) and sister-in-law, Emily.

Dennis was employed at Sydney Steel until the plant closed. During his early retirement years, dad enjoyed fishing, hunting and was the best armchair hockey player this side of the Toronto Maple Leafs (his team). He spent his final year in the loving care of his extended family at Waterford Heights.

Visitation for the late Dennis Joseph Hartigan will be held Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), Whitney Pier.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 8, 2019, at Holy Redeemer Church at 10 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the service a light lunch will be served in the funeral home reception area. Interment will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Victoria Mines, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dennis can be made to the palliative care room at Waterford Heights at the New Waterford Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Pier Community Funeral Home.
