It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the sudden passing of Victor Joseph Erickson on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the age of 81 in Sydney.

Born on April 5, 1936 in Sydney, Victor was the son of the late Rudy and Mary Erickson.

Victor will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Phyllis (McIntyre) Erickson; children, Corinne (Glenn) Umlah, Halifax, Darlene (Barry) Yhard, Dartmouth, Kim (Phil) Patterson, Dartmouth, Shaun (Sandra), Justice, Manitoba, Michelle (Francis) MacIntyre, Sydney and Shirley, Sydney; as well as 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings, Jimmy, Marilyn (Bill) Gadd, Bobby (Lillian) of Sydney and Stanley and Linda (Murray) Chandler of Ontario; many special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Victor was predeceased by his sisters, Gwen Richer and Sandra; brothers, Terry and Gary; brothers-in-law, Lewis Romeo, Cliff Hall, Terry and Jackie McIntyre, as well as sisters-in-law, Ina MacIntyre, Jean Erickson and parents-in-law, John and Hilda McIntyre.

Victor was employed with the Cape Breton Post for 43 years, retiring in 1999. He bowled in the 8-is-Enough bowling league for years, played Wednesday night darts and was a season ticket holder for the Screaming Eagles home games. Family time was special for Victor and he especially loved road trips with Phyllis, Louie and Madonna. He will be remembered by his family and friends for being the very best family man.

In keeping with Victor’s wishes there will be no visitation. Memorial Mass for the late Victor Joseph Erickson will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney with Fr. Dennis Lamey officiating. Following the Mass, a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier. Private family interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Victor may be made to Parkinson Society – Maritime Region or charity of one’s choice.

Phyllis (Ma), Corinne, Kim, Darlene, Shaun, Michelle and Shirley. My heart broke when I learned of Victor's passing. I am truly sorry for your lost. As a young man going to high school I spent a fair amount of time at your house, as we all know. Victor, and Ma, made me feel welcomed as if I was part of the family. I have the greatest respect for Victor and I was indeed blessed to have him enter my Life. My prayers are for you all because Victor has earned his wings.
