It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce Barrett, age 55, on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at the Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, New Brunswick.

Born on November 22, 1962, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Bruce was the son of the late Wayne and Karen (Hawco) Barrett.

Bruce was a heavy duty mechanic by trade. Locally in Sydney, he worked for H.G. MacNeil and later with the City of Sydney as mechanic. In the last 10 years Bruce worked in both Alberta and Northwest Territories before retiring due to illness. In his younger years, Bruce loved playing hockey and his fast cars while growing up. He enjoyed watching all sports and tinkering with cars in the yard. Bruce will be remembered by his family and friends for his determination and for being a hard worker. 

Bruce is survived by his sons, Bruce (Jamie) Barrett, Karl (Jessica) Barrett and two grandchildren, Isla and Jayden, all from Sydney area. Bruce is also survived by his two sisters, Elizabeth (Larry) and Joyce (Joey); five nephews, one niece, three great-nieces and the mother of his sons, Loretta.

Bruce was predeceased by his mother, Karen in 1982; father, Wayne in 1999 and sister, Susan in 1995.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Bruce Barrett will be held in Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1-2 p.m. with service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the memorial service. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bruce may be made to Whitney Pier Rink where he played hockey or to a charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
