Sydney

It is with deep sadness we have to say goodbye to our daughter, Janine Marie O’Rourke, age 36, who passed away peacefully in her sleep with her Saviour by her side on Friday, June 9, 2017.

Janine was born in Sydney on April 26, 1981. She graduated from Holy Angels High School and went on to become a CCA, a field in which she worked for a short period of time caring for the elderly and the sick.

Janine had a huge, soft heart and was a grand champion in caring for those who were less fortunate in life. She loved music, for we can still hear her singing “all” the words to “every” song on the radio. She was very attached to her favorite four legged furry sister, Emma Rosebud, and loved spending time with her. Janine will be remembered by her family and friends for having an infectious smile that was contagious.

Janine will be deeply missed by her Dad, John (Gracie) and Mom, Janice Pettipas-Longshaw (Herb).  She is also survived by her brothers, John Jr. (Kristie), Sydney, and Jason, Sydney; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Janine was predeceased by both maternal and paternal grandparents.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Janine Marie O’Rourke will be held in Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Saturday, June 17, 2017. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10-11 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Janine may be made to SPCA Cape Breton, Boys and Girls Clubs of Cape Breton-Whitney Pier or charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

A Prayer for Janine
Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.

Sweetheart, you will always be in our hearts, mind, and thoughts.

Send an online condolence.

I have lots of fond memories of Janine from elementary and junior high. I was lucky to have had sleepovers at her house and enjoyed her family's lovely homemade breakfasts. I recall fun times around Cantley Village at Halloween and she also attended my mom's sewing classes where we had lots of laughs. We lost touch as we went to separate high schools but I know her big heart and kindness no doubt remained. So sorry for your loss Janice, John, and brothers John Jr. and Jason and all other family and friends.
