It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our ‘Special’ sister, Janet Doreen Head on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Sydney on August 30, 1966, Janet was the daughter of the late Doris and Melvin Head.

Janet is survived by her sister, Susan (Chuck) Champion; brothers, Paul (Wendy) and Gary; as well as several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The love of Janet’s life was Horizon Achievement Centre. She worked there for 27 years learning new skills while developing a strong work ethic and a sense of belonging and acceptance.

Janet enjoyed playing baseball and watching it especially, the Toronto Blue Jays.  She also enjoyed swimming, bowling, music, singing and dancing. Janet especially enjoyed celebrating her birthday every August 30.

Janet will always be our ‘Special Little Sister’ and we want to say thank-you to all who cared for her at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Steelworkers Lane and the staff in palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

A memorial service in honor of Janet Doreen Head will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Captain Corey Vincent officiating. A private family burial will take place in Eastmount Cemetery, Whitney Pier, at a later date.

Warm sympathy on the loss of your dear sister Janet. While visiting at HS, I was lucky enough to meet and sit with Janet. She was the sweetest little lady. On one of my recent visits, I sat and drew some funny pictures for her and oh, the big laughs. You will surely miss her but will keep her close in your hearts forever.
