It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Patricia Ann Hillier, 64, of Sydney. Patricia peacefully passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her family by her side.

Born on July 14, 1952 in Sydney, Patricia was the daughter of Theresa (Duffney) and the late James ‘Jim’ Whalen.

Patricia lived a simple life. She loved to play bingo and go bowling. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts especially, knitting and working with canvass. Her biggest fan in life was Elvis Presley. Patricia will be missed by all who knew her.

Patricia is survived by her mother, Theresa; four children, William, Michelle (JD), Daniel (Tanya), Sheldon and three grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings, Jimmy (Sharon), Debbie, Brian (Helen), Ronnie (Karen), Murdock (Liz), Alice and Valerie (Roger); sister-in-law, Agnes; the father of her children, Charles Hillier; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her father, Patricia was predeceased by her brother, Raymond.

In honouring Patricia’s wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Patricia Ann Hillier will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Thursday, March 9, 2017. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12-2 p.m. with service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the funeral home reception area following the service.

Donations in memory of Patricia may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or charity of one’s choice.

Family gives a special thank you to doctors, nurses and staff members of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, palliative care unit for the care given to Patricia during her time of need.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
