Baddeck

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of Katherine B. ‘Dewey’ Reynolds, 98, on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Alderwood, Baddeck.

Born on February 1, 1918, Katherine grew up in Sydney and Baddeck Bay. She was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Mary Ann ‘Minnie’ MacKillop.

Katherine worked for many years as an LPN in Boston, Mass., retiring to Baddeck Bay in 1980. Her husband, Joseph G. Reynolds predeceased her in 1971. Dewey was a kind and generous woman, who wanted to look after everyone. She persevered through many physical challenges, meeting each with a strong spirit of independence. She was devoted to her family, always interested in the details of her many siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and beyond. Dewey will be missed by all who knew her.

Katherine is survived by her sisters, Florence (the late Harris), Vancouver, B.C. and Muriel (John) Kaiser, Seaview Manor, Glace Bay; sister-in-law, Pat (the late Alan) MacKillop, Vancouver, B.C.; brother, Murdoch (Margie) MacKillop, Baddeck; as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.

Besides her parents and her husband, Katherine was predeceased by her sisters, Norrie, Daisy, Tena and brothers, James, Norman, Alan, Gussie and Ian.

Celebration of Dewey’s life will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 2 p.m., at Alderwood, Baddeck, with Rev. Brian MacLeod officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Katherine may be made to Alderwood or charity of one’s choice.

The family wishes to thank all of the staff of Alderwood, Dr. Chow, Jacqueline Hendrikson, RNP, as well as the many homecare staff who have been so kind and caring during Katherine’s time of need.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Send an online condolence.

                              Online Condolences

I am posting this message on behalf of myself and my son, Lauchlin Johnston. Also on behalf of my sister, Jean Swift, her husband, Stephen and their daughters, Sarah and Katie and families. Sad to hear of Aunt Dewey's passing, but very grateful for her life and presence in our extended family. Our mother, Daisy was Katherine's sister – our aunt was always an example of strength and grace in many adverse times. We are so glad she is now at peace and has gone "Home".
