It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Walter Nelson Tucker, age 88, on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 4, 1928 in Sydney, Walter was the son of the late Charles and Margaret (Nelson) Tucker.

Being a veteran, Walter served in the Canadian Armed Forces, Royal Canadian Dragoons. He was a member of St. Alban’s parish, Royal Canadian Legion, Whitney Pier Branch 128 and belonged to the Whitney Pier Senior club. Later in life after the armed forces, Walter was a sargeant in the Militia at Victoria Park, Sydney. He retired from the Sydney/Whitney Pier Bus Company after 23 years of service. He will be remembered for his love of music and playing his guitar for family and friends.

Walter is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Wareham) Tucker; children, Pamela (Dwight) Roberts, Shirley (Jose) Ribeiro and Walter Jr. (Laverne) Tucker; grandchildren, Jason (Mandy) Roberts, Steven Roberts, Cora Sampson and Justin Tucker; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Walter was predeceased by his sister, Violet Marshall. He was also predeceased by one sister and one brother in infancy.

Funeral service to celebrate the life of the late Walter Nelson Tucker will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Alban’s Church, Whitney Pier, with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. Following the service a reception will take place in the church hall. Interment will be held in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Walter may be made to St. Alban’s Parish or charity of one’s choice.

Family gives special thanks to the kind and considerate staff of palliative care staff, VON, Home Instead and City Homemakers for the care given to Walter during his time of need.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

My thoughts and condolences are with Margaret and the family …Great memories of the Butlers and Tucker families hanging out together in the 60's…at the bungalow….chicken wings and Walter on guitar…a positive loving spirit always with that great smile…which will be imbedded in my memory forever….peace/love…Roy Butler
