Anne MacNeil (nee Marusiak), age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her family by her side.

Anne was a lifelong resident of Whitney Pier and member of Holy Redeemer parish. She was married to Mickey MacNeil for 53 years. Family was the center of her life. Anne was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending her summers at the bungalow at Johnston’s Harbour. Anne will be missed by all who knew her.

Anne is survived by her daughters, Anne-Lorraine Molloy, Patricia MacNeil and Lois MacDonald; grandchildren, Heather (Mark Dolhanty), Iain, Teresa MacDonald, Meaghan, Brian (Brodeigh) Molloy and five great-grandchildren, Noah, Lilah, Madden, Adley Rose and Aiden Michael. She is also survived by her sister, Kay (late Joe Dombroski); sisters-in-law, Catherine Orychock (late Tony), Anita MacNeil (late Lloyd) and Cecelia Marusiak; brother-in-law, Ted Podgurski; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Anne was predeceased by her husband, Mickey; infant son, Robert; brothers and sisters, Joseph, John, Mike Marusiak, Mary Thomas (late Peter) and Rose (Lou) Podgurski. She was also predeceased by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dewey (Joan) MacNeil, Maria (Bud) Gallivan and Margie (John) Raoul.

Visitation for the late Anne MacNeil will be held on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 6-9 p.m. at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street). Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 1 p.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass, light refreshments will be held in the funeral home reception area. Burial will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Donations in memory of Anne may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund or Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.

Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
