We, the family of Walter Head, age 94, regretfully announce his passing on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016 at the MacGillivary Guest Home, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney on June 25, 1922, Walter was the son of the late Adam and Louisa (Rolfe) Head.
Walter worked at the Sydney Steel Plant for 40 years until his retirement in 1982. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. In the summer, Walter could always be found in his vegetable garden and in the winter, at the skating rinks with his wife. Walter will be missed by all who knew him.
Walter is survived by his wife of 74 years, Gladys (Collins) Head; sons, Bill (Avril), River Ryan and Clyde (Judy), Niagara Falls, Ont.; daughters, Carolyn (Fred) Morgan, Sydney, and Holly (Tim) Boone, Sydney; as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Bill (Tina), Carl and one sister, Greta.
Besides his parents, Walter was predeceased by sisters, Lillian, Florence, Nancy and Mary; brothers, Rolf, Clyde, Earl, Melvin and four siblings in infancy, Nell, Adam, John and Cyril.
Memorial service for the late Walter Head will be celebrated at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. Following the service, light refreshments will be served in the reception area. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
Donations in Walter's memory may be made to MacGillivary Guest Home or charity of one’s choice.
