Sydney

It is with broken hearts we regret to announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Viney Hanna, age 75, on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her family by her side.

Born in Sydney, Viney was the daughter of the late Angus and Vange Campbell.

Viney was a member of Holy Redeemer parish. In her earlier years, Viney worked for Crowells and later with H&R Block until she retired. Family was everything to Viney. She took great pride in being a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend and always enjoyed spending time with them. Her passion was knitting, reading and especially playing cards every weekend with family. Viney will be missed by all that knew her.

Viney is survived by her partner, Bob Martell; children, Fred, Waterloo, Ont., David, Georgetown, Ont., Steve (Kim), Sydney, Derrick (Brenda), Sydney, and Sheri, Pickering, Ont.; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her Aunt, Nina; siblings, Davey (Mary), Nina (Junior), Sylvia (David), Sheila (Doug), Barry (Bev) and Bonnie (JR); as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for the late Margaret Lavina ‘Viney’ Hanna will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street). Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass, light refreshments will be held in the funeral home reception area. Interment will take on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 1 p.m. in old Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier.

Donations in memory of Viney may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund, Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or Canadian Cancer Society.

The family would like to give a big thank you to the many doctors and palliative care staff for the love and care given to Viney during her time of need.

Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Send an online condolence.
