With broken hearts, we regret to announce the passing of Doug James Snow on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 at the Glace Bay Healthcare, Glace Bay, surrounded by his family.

Born on Sept. 18, 1935 in Sydney, Doug was the son of the late Patrick and Mary Alice (Sullivan) Snow.

Doug worked as a maintenance employee for Breton Bay Nursing Home for 25 years before retiring. Doug will be remembered by family and friends for his ability to fix things and putting it back together. He loved to cook especially, his famous soup recipe. Doug enjoyed fishing, golfing and watching sports. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Doug is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley (MacNeil); son, Douglas and daughter, Jennifer. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty (Clyde) Hoban and Ann Marie (Bud) MacQueen; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Doug was predeceased by his sister, Veronica MacEachern and brothers, Melvin, Donald, Gregory, William and Jack.

A gathering of family and friends for the late Doug James Snow will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016 from 2-6 p.m.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Doug will take place at the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016 at 1 p.m. with Fr. Paul McGillvray officiating. Private family interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doug may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The family gives a special thank you to the staff (4 North) at Glace Bay Healthcare for the above and beyond care given to dad during his time of need. We also want to give thanks to Donnie MacKinnon for always being there for us, Fr. Paul McGillvray for his visits and support for dad and to Bill Laurie, for helping us through this difficult time.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
