It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Koleszar, 76, on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at home, surrounded by his family.

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Joe was the son of the late Steve and Yatsna Koleszar.

Joe was a member of Holy Redeemer parish, Whitney Pier. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, who dedicated most of his life caring for his family. Joe supported his family as a business owner for 35 years in upholstery and refinishing furniture. On his spare time he loved and enjoyed going for long drives and cooking for family and friends. His biggest joy was being with his grandchildren. Joe will be remembered by his family and friends for being loving, kind hearted and for always having his door open for those in need.

Joe is survived by his four children, George (Tracey) Koleszar, Roseanna (Glenn) Poirrier, Kelly Koleszar and Anna (Kenny McPhee) Koleszar; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his loving wife, Catherine Marie; sister, Marie and three brothers, Steve, Bill and John.

Visitation and funeral service to celebrate the life of Joseph ‘Joe’ Koleszar will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Wednesday, September 14, 2016. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10-11 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Donations in memory of Joe may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or VON.

The family gives thanks to the VON and palliative care professionals for the care given to Joe during his time of need. A special thank you goes to Joe’s daughter, Anna and grandson, Devin for taking dad in their home during his time of need.

Kelly, I'm very sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I always enjoyed our talks. He was a hard worker and a faithful man to his family. All the best to you as you face this great loss.

We would like to offer our sympathy to the family of Joe Koleszar. I had just moved back to Cape Breton and he did some work for me along with his son, Kelly. He was a gentle soft- spoken man, a man from another age and time….it was lovely to have simply met him.
