South Bar
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother, uncle, Bernie Fraser, 87, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016 at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Sydney River, surrounded by his family.
Born in Meat Cove, Bernie was the son of the late Hugh Simon and Beatrice (MacEachern) Fraser.
Besides his parents, Bernie was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Florence (Donavan) Fraser in 2010 and brothers, Johnny, Allan and Willie Ayre.
Bernie was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He worked in the coal mines for years and later as a merchant marine and lobster fisherman. Bernie enjoyed music concerts, dances and for the last five years before his illness, he enjoyed his daily drives around Cape Breton with his son, Blaine and telling his stories about hunting with his brothers.
There will be no visitation for the late Bernard ‘Bernie’ Fraser. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the Mass, interment will take place in St. Alphonsus parish cemetery, Victoria Mines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation in memory of Bernie may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
