Amherst/Whitney Pier

It is with profound sadness and cherished memories, that we announce the passing of Melda Delessa DeLorenzo (Jones), age 84, of Amherst and formerly of Whitney Pier, NS in the early hours of Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan with her loving family by her side.
Born in Sydney, Melda was a daughter of the late Sidney and Amelia (Whalen) Jones.

In Melda’s younger years she worked at Eaton’s Department Store in Sydney and later was employed for 35 years at the Royal Bank, Whitney Pier Branch, Sydney.

Melda was an excellent seamstress, knitter, cook, baker and enjoyed her flea market excursions while living with her husband Peppy in Northside East Bay. Although living in Amherst for 12 years her heart was always in her beloved Cape Breton.

Melda will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Laura Lee (Mischa) Zeltner, Amherst; son, David (Claire) Jones, Sydney; grandchildren, Kari (Victor) Azure  Sergio Fuentes, Amelia Fuentes (Justin Somers), Jerome Zeltner, Emma Zeltner, Gian (Bobby) MacLean and Wayne (Amy) Miller; great-grandchildren, Jackson Blair Somers, Anarrah and Menelik Azure, Ethan and Calan MacLean and August Miller; brother, George (Edith) Jones, Sydney; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Melda was predeceased by her husband, Guiseppe Antonio (Peppy) DeLorenzo; sisters, Dorielle Vinton Jones, Geraldine Jones, Erma Maxwell, Easter Mae Campbell and brothers in-law, James Campbell and George Maxwell. 

A time of remembrance and celebration of Melda’s Life will be held on Monday, May 30, 2016 between the hours of 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, (902) 667-9906.

Melda’s remains will be transferred to her home town, Sydney where visitation will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Pier Community Funeral Home, Sydney, (902) 270-1092, with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to L.A. Animal Shelter, Amherst or charity of your choice.
