We, the family of Edith Theresa Healey, 86, regret to announce her death on Thursday, Apr. 14, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Sydney, Edith was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Hawco) Healey of Whitney Pier.

Edith was a nursing graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay. She spent her career nursing in Point Edward before moving to London, Ont. Edith retired in 1985 returning to Sydney to be near her family.

Edith was a past member of the Sydney Curling Club and a member of the Holy Redeemer Church choir and her Wednesday night card club.

 

Edith will be missed by all who knew her.

Edith is survived by her sisters, Marguerite (Fraser) Burke, Sydney and Merlyn (the late Frank) Burke, Roseville, Mich.; brother, Earl (Margie) Healey, Sydney; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Edith was predeceased by her sisters, Loretta Healey, Sister Evelyn Healey and brothers, Phil and Jib.

Visitation for the late Edith Theresa Healey will be held on Monday, Apr. 18, 2016 at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 6-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Apr. 19, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks at a later date.

Donations in memory of Edith may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
