It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Samuel ‘Sam’ Charles Dunlavy, 74, on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015.

Born in Saint John, N.B., Sam was the son of the late Samuel and Eileen Dunlavy.

Sam was a kind and loving man, he loved his family and adored his grandson. He was a longtime resident of Cape Breton after retiring from many years of service in the U.S. Navy. Sam will be missed by all who knew him.

Sam is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margie (Penney); children, Lois (Stuart), Stephen (Crista), Sandra (Dennis), Michael (Roby), Joseph (Cynthia) and the joy of his life, his grandson, Noah.

At Sam’s request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015 at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place at Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, Whitney Pier.

Donations in memory of Sam may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
