With sadness we announce the passing of Linda E. Young, 70, on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015 in I.C.U. at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born Nov. 11, 1944, Linda was the daughter of the late Ben and Florence (Warren) Young, South Bar.

Linda graduated from Holy Redeemer High School and also Holy Angels High School. She trained at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, North Sydney, and received her RN in 1966. She began her nursing career at St. Rita Hospital in Sydney and later the South Peel Hospital in Port Credit, Ont.

As a young nurse Linda travelled to many parts of Canada, U.S.A. and Europe including the Vatican. A couple of times Linda flew to Europe preparing and bringing sick Canadian tourists back to Ontario. 

In 1978 Linda retired from nursing due to illness and moved back home to Cape Breton. Linda would fill her days being active in her church and the MS Society.  Linda became a resident of Harbourstone Enhance Care Facility in March 2014.  

Linda is survived by her sisters, Marilyn MacLeod, Baddeck, Susan (Mark) Biagi, Terrace, B.C. and brother, David (Sylvia) Young, Whitney Pier. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Linda was predeceased by her brother, Warren Young.

Memorial graveside service to celebrate the life of Linda E. Young will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at 1 p.m. in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, with Fr. Paul McGillvray officiating. Following the service a reception will take place at the Sydney Forks Recreational Centre, Sydney Forks.

Donations in memory of Linda may be made to the Whitney Pier Boys and Girls Club or a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

So sorry to read of Linda's passing in today's paper..I had not seen her for a few years but would meet her occasionally when she would visit my mother (Beth Gardner) when she would go to see her friend Carolyn at the Northside Guest Home..My mother mentioned her often.. and enjoyed chatting to her on the phone many times our deepest sympathy to all the family…

Sincere condolences from Danielle Forseille and family. Danielle knew Linda through the local MS Society,as well Danielle is a resident at Fisherman's Cove, Harbourstone. Linda always had kind words of encouragement for Danielle in their shared struggle with MS. Our thoughts and prayers are with Linda and her family.
