Sydney

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear brother, uncle and friend, Vincent John MacDonald, 53, on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Nov. 13, 1961 in Sydney, Vincent was the son of the late Jim and Eleanor (MacLeod) MacDonald.

Vincent is survived by his sister, Patsy (Raymond) Foley; niece, Kelley (Stephen) Lundrigan; nephews, Ray (Annie) Foley Jr. and Christopher Kelly; sister in-law, Judy MacDonald, Truro; as well as several aunts, uncles, great nieces and great nephews.

Besides his parents, Vincent was predeceased by his sister, Noreen Kelly and brother, James MacDonald.

In his earlier years, Vincent moved to Ontario and worked for HB Fuller as a chemical mixer. Due to a motor vehicle injury, Vincent returned to Cape Breton to live in his own home, where he was cared for lovingly by many wonderful nursing staff over the years and by his physiotherapist, dear friend, Eddie Orrell. Vincent will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Vincent John MacDonald will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Friday, Aug. 28, 2015. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 2:15-3 p.m. with service to follow at 3 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service.  Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Donations in memory of Vincent may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to thank ICU staff, doctors and palliative care staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the love and care given to Vincent during his time of need.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Send an online condolence.
