It is with great sadness the family of the late Lena Marie MacDonald, 66, announces her passing on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, surrounded by her loving family.
Marie was born and raised in Whitney Pier where she resided until going into care. She was the daughter of the late Angus and Rosie MacAskill.

Marie is survived by husband of 43 years, Allan; daughter, Lisa (Robert) Curry and granddaughter, Caitlyn. She is also survived by sisters, Diane (the late Richard Kennedy), Ivy, Leona Anne, and Kathy; brothers, Gussie (Aliex) and William ‘Gigi’; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Marie worked for Shannex in the dietary department for 30 years before retiring due to ill health. She was a very active person, Marie loved going for walks, bike rides and also enjoyed her dart and bowling nights. Marie would not turn down a good game of cards or to attend family functions where she enjoyed dancing late into the night. Before becoming ill, she enjoyed her time travelling around different parts of the island with her good friend, Sally. Marie also enjoyed travelling abroad to different parts of the world. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of ever knowing her.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Marie MacDonald will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Thursday, July 2, 2015.

A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12-1 p.m. with service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. 

Donations in memory of Marie may be made to the Alzheimer Society.

The MacDonald family would like to thank Dr. Murdock Smith and the Harbourstone staff for the love and care given to Marie during her time of need.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Rest in peace Marie, we will see you again.

Allan, Lisa I am very sorry to hear of Marie's passing. Marie and I spent alot of time walking , biking and going to the gym together. Marie was a kind, gentle soul who I will miss. I do have great memories of her that I will keep in my heart and mind… RIP my old friend!!
