It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Gertrude Dunn on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born on July 14, 1935, in Sydney, Shirley was the daughter of the late Bernard and Gertrude (Fowler) Moore.

She was the youngest and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Shirley was a devoted Catholic of Holy Redeemer parish. She worked in shoe retail in her younger years before retiring from Sydney City Hospital, Housekeeping Department. She loved playing cards, bingo and was a very dear friend to all. Shirley will be remembered by family and friends for her laughter and love for music while enjoying a good time.

Shirley is survived by her two children, Karen, New Brunswick, and Michael, New Jersey, N.Y. Also left to mourn are several sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Neil Dunn, son, Robert, sisters, Maise, Colleen and Clara, and brothers, Bernie, Mick, Jim, Francis, Kevin and John.

Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in the old Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier. A reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home

Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Schizophrenia Society of Canada
