50, Sydney

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our son, brother, Derrick ‘Bic’ William Corbett on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Born in Sydney, on Oct. 31, 1963, Derrick was the son of John and Gloria (Hilder) Corbett.

Bic left Sydney at the age of 20. He worked for Domglass in Ontario for 20 years before returning to Sydney with his daughter. Bic will be remembered by his family and friends for being very caring and set in his ways.

Besides his parents, Bic is survived by his daughter, Destiny (Peter) and his beautiful granddaughter, Nevaeh, who was his pride and joy. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Cordelia), Shawn (Kathy) and Billy, at home; good friends, known as the Talbot boys, Blair, Dennis and Wally; as well as his best friends, Louie and Linda Margettie, who thought of Bic as their own brother.

Derrick was predeceased by his grandparents, Pius and Alma Corbett and James and Bridget Hilder; and an aunt, Patricia Hawco.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Derrick ‘Bic’ William Corbett will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, from 2–3 p.m. Interment will take place in Eastmount Cemetery, Sydney.
Donations in memory of Bic may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and palliative care staff for the wonderful care given to our son, Bic. We would also like to give a sincere thanks to all those who were there for us. ‘God Bless’.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
