65, Sydney

It is with deep sadness that we regret to announce the passing of Wes Simms on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in Whitney Pier, Wes was the son of the late Edna and Gordon Simms.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

At the age of 14, Wes attended school for the blind (CNIB) in Halifax. He later worked for K-Mart for 28 years, retiring as manager in the sporting goods department. Family was everything to Wes especially, his three grandchildren, for they were his pride and joy.

Wes is survived by his wife, Philene (Lewis); son, Chris (Ann); daughter, Jodi (Marc) Peinsznski; grandchildren, Shawn Simms and Ryan and Joshua Peinsznski; brother in-law, Owen Lewis, sister in-law, Janis Pearson and special aunt, Evelyn (Bronson) Dicks.

Besides his parents, Wes was predeceased by his brother, Don.

By Wes’s request, there will be no visitation for cremation has taken place. Funeral service to celebrate Wes’s life will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at 3 p.m. at St. Alban Anglican Church with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Wes may be made to St. Alban Anglican Church.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Send an online condolence.
