It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of John Joseph Rambeau on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in South Harbour, John Joseph was the son of the late William Francis and Beatrice (Daisley) Rambeau.

He also was the stepson of the late stepmothers, Sophie Anne (Daisley) Rambeau and Effie (MacKinnon) Rambeau.

Left to mourn is John Joseph best friend and companion, Mary Hawley; son, Eddie (Allison) Hawley and Poppy John to Bailey and Jesse. Also left to mourn are his daughter, Agnes (Melvin) Pearo and his two granddaughters, Jenny (Jerome) and Joy (Ash); daughter, Violet (Murdock) Burton; his grandson, Jamie (Amy); grandson, Murdock(Lynda) and his great-grandchildren, Ethan and Vincent; granddaughter, Mary Catherine (Charles) and great-granddaughter, Azraelle; daughter, Marlene Rambeau (Vince); daughter, Jean (Terry) Hogan and his grandson, Matt (Stacey) Hogan; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Mya; brother-in-law, Lloyd (Joyce) Greek; niece, Cathy and grandnieces, Ashley and Allison; nephew, Shane (Kendra) Greek; Cathy and Shane’s mom, Wanda. John Joseph is also survived by his sister in-Law, Emma Rambeau; brother-in-Law, Leslie Buffett; nephew, Meech (Lori) Rambeau and his grandniece and grandnephew, Tiffany and Chris; nephew, Kenneth Grant (Gwynny) Buffett and his grandnephew and grandniece, Samual and Kyla; two special Aunts, Jessie Fitzgerald and Georgina Briand; and Walter Dixon of Marion Bridge.

John Joseph was predeceased by his first wife, Effie Catherine Dixon, second wife, Ellen Jane Dunphy, sisters, Beatrice in infancy and Effie Mae, brother, Cecil, brother-in-law, Hector MacKinnon, nephew, ‘Little’ Archie MacKinnon and his grandparents, Stephen and Fanny Rambeau with whom he spent a lot of his early years with.

Dad spent his whole life as a fisherman. He started at the age of 11 with his father, Frank in the snapper boat ‘Rambeaus’. He fished for 73 years and ending at the age of 83 in the boat named ‘John Joseph’ fishing with his grandson, Jamie.

At John Joseph’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation for the late John Joseph Rambeau will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at St. Francis Hall, Smelt Brook, beginning at 2 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. in St Joseph’s Church, Dingwall, with Fr. Ajit Kerketta officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery. A reception following the committal will be held at St. Francis Hall, Smelt Brook.

Donations in memory of John Joseph may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, CCU and 4A, doctors and nurses at Buchanan Memorial Hospital and to the home care staff for the care given to John Joseph during his time of need.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
