It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a dear husband and father, Ambrose Matthew Corbett on Monday, August 26, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his family by his side.

Born in Holyrood, Newfoundland, Ambrose was the son of the late Bartholomew and Catherine (Healey) Corbett.

In 1936, Ambrose moved with his family to Sydney. He was employed for 46 years with the International Coal Piers, retiring in 1987.

Left to mourn Ambrose’s passing are his wife of 65 years, Gertie (Bonner) Corbett; daughter, Colleen; two sisters, Catherine Corbett, Cove Guest Home, and Theresa (late Angus) MacLean, Howie Centre; sister in-law, Florence ‘Dodie’ Dalton, South Bar, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Ambrose was predeceased by his brothers, Bill and Bart, and sisters, Mary Corbett and Anastasia Cuddihy.

At Ambrose’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place with mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at St. Theresa’s Church on Friday, August 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Fr. James Oliver officiating. A reception following the mass will be held at St. Theresa’s hall. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ambrose may be made to Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation – Cancer Centre, Canadian Red Cross, S.P.C.A. – Sydney Branch or charity of choice.
