It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our mother and grandmother, Madeline on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at the family home.
Born in Sydney on March 7, 1915, Madeline was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Heaney) Keough.
Mom was also predeceased by her husband, Ivan Paul Fitzgerald in July 1975; sister, Mary ‘Mamie’ Keough and brothers, Gerald, Ronald, Pierce and Joe Keough.
Mom was fortunate to have lived her life to the fullest in the Pier having lived her final years in the home that her father purchased when she was 12. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Church and a past president and life member of the CWL.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jim (Joyce) Fitzgerald and Miles Fitzgerald; brother, Jimmy Keough; sister, Anna Letourneau and grandchildren, Kennedy, Keigan and Liam Fitzgerald. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews who cared for her dearly.
There will be no visitation at Mom’s request. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. A reception following the mass will be held at the church. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in memory of Madeline may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
The family extends a special thank you to Beverley Keough McCarthy for the support given to mom throughout her final years. Special thanks are also extended to City Homeworkers Continuous Care, VON, and An Cala staff.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
