106, Sydney

It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Naomi Hoban on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Bonavista, Nfld., Naomi was the daughter of the late George and Emily (Hicks) Keel.

Naomi, our mother, loved life. She loved cooking, knitting, crocheting and most of all, playing her favourite tune on the harmonica, “You are My Sunshine.” Mom loved gardening and had a special place in her heart for animals. Mom welcomed everyone who visited the home and would offer you ‘Tea and Toast.’ Naomi will always be remembered by family and friends for being a beautiful kind soul.

Naomi leaves to mourn her son, Bill; daughter, Mildred Brydson; grandchildren, Ray, Rita, Jana, David, Gail and Walter; great-grandchildren, Jetanne, Randelle, Jay, Daniel, Deedra, Derek, Riley, Keegan and Maeve; great-great-grandchild, Simone; daughter-in-law, Dorothy; best friend, Joan Morrison; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Naomi was predeceased by husband, Arch, children, Jeanette and Howard, brother, Hubert and sister, Grace.

Visitation and funeral service to celebrate the life of Naomi Hoban will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Monday, April 29, 2013. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Wade Reppert officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.

Donations in memory of Naomi may be made to charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

My sympathy and condolence to the Hoban Family. What a wonderful age to live to. I read that Naomi was born in Bonavsita, NF and daughter of George Keel. My grandmother was Ellen Keel of Bonavista, daughter of Robert Keel. My grandmother married William House and they settled at West Street in the Pier. I have never been able to trace any family members of my grandfather. This is the lst time I have seen the name Kell in an Obit.
