Sydney

Their love story continues as Kenneth Reginald Assoun joined his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Mary (Ardelli) in eternal reunion on July 3, 2025.

Ken made many friends during his long career which included Dofasco Hamilton, Sydney Steel Corporation, Sydney Coke Ovens and finishing up with the Tar Ponds Clean Up.

Ken was an avid scrub hockey and baseball player. He made many friends and thoroughly enjoyed a few beers with the boys after the game.

Ken and Dorothy loved all their nieces and nephews as if they were their own. They always had a carload when going fishing, concerts, skating and picnics. They travelled throughout the country often to visit the many that lived away.

Ken absolutely loved music! The likes of Willie, Chet, Doc and many others. Ken could do a little pickin’ and grinnin’ himself. He always had an opinion and would share it with you whether you wanted to hear it or not, he was always up for a good debate.

Ken was predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothy; parents, Helen (O’Dea) and Reginald Assoun, as well as his stepfather, Myles Furlong. Also predeceased by brothers, Jim, John, Louis, Ron, David, and Glen; as well as niece, Stephanie and nephews, Darin and Troy.

Ken is survived by his sister, Kimberly (Darren); brother, Kevin (Brenda), and a long list of nieces and nephews, Reg, Brent, Dean, Keith, Kathy, Jim, Peter, Tracey, Darlene, Angela, Kirt, Aaron, Glenn, Tanya, Amanda, Jamie, Meghan, Carter, Maria, Thomas, John, Barbara, Bernadette, Virgil, Stephen, Kim, Caitlin, Ethan, Camille, Jennifer, Erin, and Ryan, as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Special thanks to the Staff at the Cove Guest Home for making Ken’s last few years a little less lonely without his love.

There will be no visitation for the late Kenneth Assoun. A graveside service will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11 a.m. in Saint Theresa’s Cemetery on Grand Lake Road, Sydney with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.

Donations in memory of Kenneth may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
