Sydney
January 31, 1970 – May 2, 2025
We regret to announce the passing of Angus ‘Gussie’ Cameron, of Sydney, on Friday, May 2, 2025, surrounded by his family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Antigonish and raised in Ashby, Gus spent most of his working career as a Produce Manager for the Superstore and Walmart. He took great pride in his department and won awards for his displays.
Gus was a very kind, considerate and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan and always enjoyed watching the game and cheering them on. Growing up, he learned to play the drums and was a member of a few local bands in the Sydney area in the 1990s. Gus loved listening to music, going for an early morning coffee and his drives around downtown Sydney.
Gus is survived by his wife of 27 years, love of his life and best friend, Sonya; children, Kyle (Ashley), Hinton, AB and Kaitlyn (Johnny), Sydney; brothers, Blair (Kamy), Glace Bay and Doug (Tracey), Ottawa. Gus was Grampy to his little ray of sunshine, Avery and special uncle to Dawson, Tori, Logan, Landen, Elizabeth, Emily and Annalese. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Brad Skinner; mother-in-law, Michelle Skinner; brother-in-law, Brad (Tracey) and sister-in-law, Rhonda.
Gus was predeceased by his parents, Colin and Marcella Cameron and his best friend and walking companion, Zeus.
We would like to thank Dr. Paul Murphy, Dr. Christine MacLean and Dr. Andrew Giorno for their support and care for Gus throughout his illness. We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of An Cala unit for palliative care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and the nursing team from the VON.
Gus was always there for his family, sharing in their successes and supporting his family and friends. He was always ready to lend a helping hand throughout his life and taught everyone to do the same. His laughter, jokes and quick wit are all things that we will remember and cherish. Gus lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Angus ‘Gussie’ Cameron will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gus may be made to local animal charities or helping people in need.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
Lovingly thought of, deeply missed and forever cherished.
