Whitney Pier

It is with the deepest sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Thelma Barrington at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Monday, April 21, 2025. Mom passed peacefully and surrounded by her family.

Born in Sydney, Thelma was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (MacNeil) Flynn.

Thelma is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert W. Barrington; daughters, Lorna (Cletus) Hallahan, Anita (Dan) Harris, Linda, Elaine, and her son, Keith (Carol Lee); grandchildren, David M. Barrington, Cathelene Hallahan, Mary Hallahan, Amanda Hallahan, JoAnn Hallahan, Michelle (Tommy) Harris, Daniel Harris, Mark Barrington, Brian (Melissa) Barrington, and Holly Barrington; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Kameron, Anna, and Emma Barrington, and Lauren Hemmings, Caoimhe and Connor Flood.

Mom was predeceased by her sisters, Cecelia (Johnny) Ferris, and Lillian Flynn; her son-in-law, Eric Sheppard, and grandson, Bruce Barrington.

Mom worked for 42 years with Bob as owners/operators of LeBlanc Printing, Victoria Rd, Whitney Pier.
Mom’s love is her legacy. Caring for her family was her purpose. Mom was known for her wonderful cooking, baking and beautiful decorating for all occasions. She loved life. Her smile was contagious…a beautiful woman in every way.

Mom will be deeply missed.

Special thank you to Dr. Glen Worth, Dr. Hebb, and all the Health Care professionals and caring staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care given to Thelma.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Thelma Barrington will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Friday, April 25, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Jane Keller LLWL officiating. Private family interment will take place at a later date.

Donations in memory of Thelma may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
