Sydney

It is with great sorrow that we, the family of Mary Louise (Moules) Broussard announce her peaceful passing on Friday, May 16, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

The eldest daughter, born to Albert ‘Reddy’ and Rachel Moules, Mary was raised by her grandparents, the late Mary and Jim McGrady.

Mary is survived by her very caring and loving husband, Fred Sr.; sons, Fred (Darlene), Albert (Lisa), and sisters, Annie (Gerard) MacKinnon and Rachel (Stuart) Nickless.

Mary was predeceased by daughter, Mary Louise; parents; grandparents; father-in-law, Joseph Broussard and mother-in-law, Emma (Colette) Broussard MacDonald; brothers, Valentino ‘Val’, Albert ‘Bunt’, James ‘Jimmy’, and Danny Moules; sisters, Helen Conohan, and Shirley Porter (formally Short); brothers-in-law, Lloyd Short, and William Porter; sisters-in-law, Rosie Moules, Sharon Moules, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mary cared deeply when it came to her family, especially her 17 grandchildren, Kelly and Jillian Somers, Richard, Nicole and Brady Broussard, Melissa (Dave), Natasha (Josh), Dean (Kayla), Kyle (Holly), Leno (Brittany), Estelle (Alex), Catherine (Travis), Frederick (McKayla), Albert, Aaron, Kayle and Shia Pickup, and great-grandchildren, Billie, Taylor, Ashley, Zachary, Brayden, Kenna, Oriana, Isaac, Xavier, Luka, Addia, Carleigh, Brooklyn, Addison, Emily, Beau, Lainey, Kolson, Leno, Kaleb, Myia, Maleah, Victor, Kylind, Haven, and Rhiannon.

Mary had many close friends, neighbors and acquaintances that she kept in touch with over the years. It didn’t matter if you were family, friend, neighbor, or one of her many co-workers from her waitressing job at the New Moon Restaurant or during her 30 years working at Zellers until her retirement.

Mary always tried to keep in touch with those she held dear to her heart, with phone calls, sending messages on facebook and by attending many lunch dates, at local restaurants, with long time dear friend Sadie Walsh, among many others over the years.

Mary not only enjoyed her married and family life but also her social life which included belonging to a bowling and darts league, playing cards and Sunday Bingo with her very good friend, Phyllis Erickson. She also enjoyed having company drop in for visits, where she would not let you leave empty handed. Her abundance of love spread to all who knew her. She was a woman who spoke her mind yet showed empathy to those who were in need of a little encouragement and hope.

Mary will be dearly missed by many who knew her as their childhood friend’s mom, sister-in-law, cousin and Aunt Mary.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who treated Mary during her time in palliative care along with her family doctor, Dr. Morash.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Society in Mary’s memory.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary Broussard will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Saturday, June 14, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
