It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of one of the last original Hillfolk, Sarah Anne ‘Sally’ Hennick on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Sydney on August 2, 1936, Sally was the daughter of the late Thomas ‘Tom’ and Ethel (Murrin) O’Neill. Sally enjoyed bowling in her younger years, hosted card nights every Sunday up on the Hill and always had a pot of tea ready for visitors.

Sally is survived by her four children, George (Pat) Hennick, Debbie Gillis (Glen), Freddy Hennick and Trish (Kevin Bray) Hennick; nine grandchildren, Keith, Angela, Laurie (special granddaughter), David, Brian, Sarah, Brittney, Keila, and Nicholas; 13 great-grandchildren, Karter, Keigan, Aliyah, Hailey, Kylie, Dylan, Austin, Hailey, Brady, Cori, Mallory, Kevin, and Cullen; two great-great-grandchildren, Bowie, and Dawson, and sister, Rose (Larry) Wilkie. Sally is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, who will miss her dearly.

Besides her mother and father, Sally is predeceased by ‘her man’ Stanley ‘Stan’ Hennick; granddaughter, Shauna; sisters, Mary, Marg, Bernie, Grace, Caty, Joey and brothers, Tommy, James, Micky, Earl, and William in infancy.

The family wishes to thank the first responders and plow drivers, who were quick to help get Sally the care she needed during the big snow, and to the palliative care nurses for providing that extra care in her last moments. A special thanks goes to Glen for all the help given to Sally through the years.

Donations to the palliative care center in honour of Sally would be appreciated by the family.

There will be no visitation or service for the late Sally Hennick.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
